Here & Now / Process Groups
These groups provide a unique opportunity to receive multiple perspectives, support encouragement and feedback from other individuals in a safe and confidential environment.
These interpersonal interactions can provide you with an opportunity to deepen your level of self-awareness. Together, we then help each other plan on how to deal with our issues.
Groups are facilitated by a peer who is in recovery.
Throughout the programme, you will be in contact with volunteers and Builders who are in recovery. These people have completed the Freedom Programme and are there to support you by offering their experience, both in and out of groups, on an informal basis. This work is an important part of their own recovery and you will be helping them as much as they help you.
SMART Recovery Groups:
When trapped in an addictive behaviour it is possible to become isolated and you may be thinking that no one else understands what you are going through. At a SMART meeting, you will find people who will understand and have experience and success in dealing with these difficulties.
All SMART Recovery meetings are run by trained facilitators and follow a standard structure.
They are held twice weekly and last for 90 minutes (check individual meeting details).
New participants are welcome to just observe if they are not yet comfortable discussing their own issues or contributing to the meeting.
The focus of the meeting is on the addictive behaviour and not on the substance itself. We also concentrate on the present and future (setting goals), we do not focus on the past (no life stories!)
SMART uses evidence-based tools and techniques (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing).
ACT Peer Recovery
ACT-PR offers meetings around the country run by peers and based on Acceptance and Commitment Training. This is a simple format that is proven, easy to learn and works by focusing on behaviour.
With practice, you can learn to Pause when life is heading in the wrong direction and change course towards recovery. Of course, this is difficult to do, which is why it helps to have the support of your peers.
